Feb.13 Written Opinion Concerning Draft Guideline by Tokushima Prefecture on the Cultivation of GM Crops
A written opinion concerning Draft Guideline on the Cultivation of GM Crops, which prevents cross-pollination and mixing of GM crops, was submitted. JABEX advocated that GM crops allowed to be cultivated commercially be out of scope.

Feb.01 Written Opinion Concerning Draft Rule by Niigata Prefecture on the Cultivation of GM Crops
A written opinion concerning Draft Rule on the Cultivation of GM Crops, which prevents cross-pollination and mixing of GM crops, was submitted. JABEX advocated that GM crops allowed to be cultivated commercially be out of scope.

Jan. 26 8th Biotechnology Strategy Council Meeting
Utada offered his opinion as follows. 1) The life science field is one of the important fields on the 3rd Science and Technology Basic Plan.. 2) An Evaluation of the effects of and a revise of the Biotechnology Strategy Guidelines. 3) Promotion of public understanding of biotechnology.

Jan.24 Written Opinion Concerning a Proposal by Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries to Revise Guideline on the Experiment of the Cultivation of GM Crops
A written opinion was submitted, which was concerning a Proposal to Revise Guideline on the Experiment of the Cultivation of GM Crops approved as Type 1 Use for independent administrative institutions presided by Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. JABEX advocated that GM crops allowed to be cultivated commercially be out of scope.

Jan.13 Written Opinion Concerning Restriction by Niigata Prefecture on the Cultivation of GM Crops
A written opinion concerning Draft Ordinance on the Cultivation of GM Crops, an ordinance prevents cross-pollination and mixing of GM crops, was submitted. JABEX opposed the excess restriction on GM crops allowed to be cultivated commercially.
