本セミナーでは、BioJapan当日の交流促進を図ることを目的として、事前に来日企業等の各社に、それぞれの取り組みをご紹介いただきます。

シンガポールのScaleUp Bio社は、2022年に設立された精密発酵分野のCDMOで、ラボから商業生産に至るスケールアップを一貫して支援しています。10～100Lでの技術移管・プロセス開発から、1,000Lでのパイロット製造、20,000L規模での実証生産まで対応。培養プロセスだけでなく、細胞分離、ろ過、クロマトグラフィー、濃縮、噴霧乾燥などのダウンストリーム工程も支援し、収率や回収率、製造コストの改善を通じて、バイオ由来製品の事業化・量産化を支援しています。

演題名 ： Scaling Precision Fermentation in Asia: From Process Development to 20,000L Manufacturing

要旨 ：

Scaling a microbial fermentation process from the laboratory to industrial production remains one of the most challenging stages in bringing biotechnology products to market. Processes that perform well at small scale can encounter significant challenges as they move into larger equipment, including changes in fermentation performance, downstream recovery, process reproducibility, cost and the generation of material required for regulatory or market validation.

This presentation introduces ScaleUp Bio , a Singapore-based precision fermentation CDMO established to help biotechnology companies bridge the gap between laboratory development and commercial manufacturing. ScaleUp Bio operates an integrated scale-up platform spanning technology transfer and process development at 10-100L , pilot manufacturing at 1,000L , and industrial demonstration fermentation at 20,000L scale. The organisation works across microbial hosts including E. coli , yeast, bacteria and fungi, supporting products such as recombinant proteins, enzymes, lipids and oils, probiotics and other fermentation-derived ingredients.

Rather than simply providing fermentation capacity, ScaleUp Bio works with customers through the scale-up journey -- from technology transfer and process optimisation to pilot batches, regulatory material generation and early commercial manufacturing. Its facilities combine upstream fermentation with downstream operations including cell separation, filtration, homogenisation, chromatography, concentration, and spray drying.

The presentation will also share practical examples of how iterative scale-up and process optimisation can improve fermentation yield, downstream recovery and unit economics , while reducing the technical and capital risks associated with moving toward commercial production. The ScaleUp Bio deck includes case studies showing significant improvements across precisely these parameters.

For biotechnology, food, nutrition and industrial biotechnology companies considering scale-up or manufacturing in Asia, the session will provide an introduction to how an external scale-up partner can help validate a process at increasingly larger scales, generate regulatory and market material, and establish an early manufacturing pathway before committing to dedicated commercial infrastructure .
