JBA traces its roots back to the Alcohol Association, established in 1942. Following the end of World War II, the Alcohol Association was dissolved, leading to the formation of the Foundation for Fermentation Industry. As biotechnology advanced, the Foundation underwent reorganization, and in 1987, the Japan Bioindustry Association (JBA) was officially established. In response to changes in regulations governing non-profit organizations, JBA was formally registered as a general incorporated foundation under the new legal framework in April 2011.
